Indian women’s football team on international tour for 3 matches Indian women’s football team has reached Turkey for its first exposure tour post the COVID-19 break. The Indian team will play three friendly matches on this tour against three different countries. The tour will prepare the Indian team for the upcoming 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup. Indian women’s football team is currently ranked 53rd in the world and will face higher-ranked opponents Russia (23), Ukraine (24), and Serbia (40) on this tour. All three matches will be played in Alanya, Turkey. The young Indian side will miss the lights of senior players like Bala Devi, Aditi Chauhan, and Dalima Chhibber as they are not part of the tour because of various reasons. The 20-member squad also includes Sumati Kumari and Kritina Devi, the duo is also included in the squad for the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which has now been postponed to 2022. India to host the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022- Asia’s most prestigious women’s tournament will take place from January 20 to February 6 in India. In the previous edition, eight teams were there but the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2022 will comprise three groups of four- a total of 12 teams. The top eight will qualify for the newly introduced Quarter-finals. India last qualified for the tournament in 2003, when it was known as the AFC Women’s Championship. The tournament was rebranded as the Women’s Asian Cup from the next edition in 2006. Football in India has started to grow in the past decade as India is continuously working towards the sport. The nation has shown the world that they have the potential to host big tournaments. India was slated to host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020, which has now been postponed to 2022. The AIFF had earlier successfully organized the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017. India had also hosted the AFC U-16 Championship India 2016.
